David Robert Smith
1975 โ€“ 2025

David Robert Smith was an extraordinary writer and thinker. This site contains a fraction of the writing he created over the course of his life, a life which ended unexpectedly in late 2025 at age 50. David's career centered on the broad use of his God-given writing talent, working at a variety of publications, earning the respect and friendship of many in his field.

The writing on these pages features his high school writing, some of it created when he was only fourteen years old. His writing reflects David's thoughts on mortality, struggles with identity, and his strong desire to experience freedom from the constraints and pain that mark this corrupted world. He sought acceptance, peace, a sense of belonging, and love.

A common name does not make a common person.

Those who knew David best loved his company, his sharp wit, his taste in music, and his obvious mastery of words. His high school quote summed up David perfectly. He was certainly an uncommon person, with red hair, green eyes, and an incredibly sensitive soul. Even as a high school student, he wrote like someone who had already thought harder about existence than most people ever will.

We thank God we knew Dave. His insight, talent, and presence are sorely missed. While we grieve his loss, we rejoice knowing his words and memory will live on forever.
